What is a doctor of optometry?

Doctors of Optometry (O.D.) are the primary health care providers for the eye. They specialize in the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as the diagnosis of related systemic conditions.

Optometrists must be certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and licensed by the state regulatory board. All optometrists are required to participate in ongoing continuing education courses to stay current on the latest standards of care. Our doctors of optometry provide comprehensive eye examinations that allow them to prescribe, fit and dispense ocular medications, glasses, and contact lenses, providing total eye health and vision care for all ages.

Kurt E. Treu, OD

Dr. Kurt E Treu has practiced in Georgia for 22 years. Dr Treu maintains two successful private practices. In addition to family practice Optometry, Dr Treu specializes in contact lenses, pre/post LASIK, cataract management, keratoconus, dry eye disease, glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive eye disease. He completed his undergraduate studies at Drew University being awarded the BA degree. He then earned his Doctorate and BS. from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Treu is board licensed in the treatment and management of ocular disease and vision disorders. He is a current member of both the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association.

Joseph L. Rouw OD

Dr. Joseph Rouw graduated in 2004 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Following graduation Dr. Rouw completed a residency program in ocular disease at Seidenberg-Protzko Eye Associates in Havre de Grace, Maryland. The ocular disease residency focused on the diagnosis and treatment of common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and ocular emergencies as well as pediatric eye care. Dr. Rouw also participated in the pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract and LASIK surgery.

Dr. Rouw is a member of the Georgia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Rouw is committed to providing professional eye care to the community in a caring and compassionate manner.
